Duma says to consider Yandex self-driving cars’ accidents

MOSCOW, Oct 12 (PRIME) -- The transport committee of Russia’s State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, will consider road traffic accidents with Internet company Yandex’s self-driving cars, the committee’s deputy head Vladimir Afonsky told PRIME on Monday.

“If there is information that they break the traffic rules, certainly, this issue should be on the deputy’s agenda. We’ll certainly discuss it at a meeting of the committee for transport and construction,” Afonsky said.

Media earlier reported that Yandex’s self-driving cars have violated the traffic rules nine times in Moscow with two accidents since the start of their testing in June 2019.

Yandex has been developing self-driving cars since January 2017 and is testing them in Russia, Israel, and the U.S.
